Chinatown PHL is designed to provide a comprehensive guide to understanding the history of Philadelphia’s historic Chinatown neighborhood as well as its significance in contemporary Philadelphia, including but not limited to its contributions to the food scenes, art, music, and nightlife.

Navigating through the interactive timeline, learn about the rich history of Chinatown from its inception to its integration into modern-day Philadelphia Center City. Using the guides page, explore the best places to visit, whether it be your first time in Chinatown or your 50th.

From a broader standpoint, the purpose of this project is to highlight the importance of cultural neighborhoods and communities, especially in highly urban populations such as Philadelphia. Philadelphia’s Chinatown is only one example among hundreds of cultural communities that have flourished in the face of hardship and have continued to influence the surrounding communities while providing people of diverse identities with a place to share their culture with pride.
